It has been well known for a long time that many of the grape varieties which are grown throughout Europe originated in Turkey. One of them Razaki has been recognized for many years and widely cultivated in Turkey. Different mutations and virus infections have caused wide variation m this cultivar. In order to select superior strains from this Razaki population a study was conducted by the department of viticulture in the Institute. For this purpose, eleven different ecotype vineyards in which the Razaki variety is grown were selected for study in the Bursa area. One hundred and ten individual grape vines were then selected by the mass selection method from the 7513 vines. Next year additional clonal selection will be made from this population.
