An Assessment on the Possibilities for The Production of Early Vegetable Crops in Southern Turkey

Abstract

The south coast of Turkey has a mild climate suitable for early vegetable production. The two main problems are (a) what are the relative merits of different methods of getting early crops and (b) how can the production in the present glasshouses be improved. Many methods are available for producing early crops-glasshouses, heated and cold; high and low polythene tunnels, hot caps, frames, etc.-but there is insufficient evidence as yet to show which would be best in any particular situation. A full-scale research project is needed. The improvement of production in the present glasshouses is dis cussed in detail under the headings soil structure and drainage, watering, manuring and feeding, ventilation, plant spacing and arrangement, staking, disease prevention and hygiene, disease control, heating, hormones and other fruit setting aids and propagation. These items are analyzed and a suggested improved system of growing has been synthesized from this analysis.

Akdeniz Bölgesinde Turfanda Sebze Yetiştirilmesi İmkânları

Abstract

Türkiye'nin güney kıyıları erkenci sebze üretimine uygun ılıman bir iklime sahiptir. İki ana sorun şunlardır: (a) erkenci ürün elde etmenin farklı yöntemlerinin göreceli avantajları nelerdir ve (b) mevcut seralardaki üretim nasıl geliştirilebilir. Erkenci ürün üretmek için birçok yöntem mevcuttur - seralar, ısıtmalı ve soğuk; yüksek ve alçak polietilen tüneller, sıcak kapaklar, çerçeveler, vb. - ancak herhangi bir özel durumda hangisinin en iyi olacağını göstermek için henüz yeterli kanıt yoktur. Tam ölçekli bir araştırma projesine ihtiyaç vardır. Mevcut seralarda üretimin iyileştirilmesi, toprak yapısı ve drenaj, sulama, gübreleme ve besleme, havalandırma, bitki aralığı ve düzenlemesi, sırıklama, hastalık önleme ve hijyen, hastalık kontrolü, ısıtma, hormonlar ve diğer meyve tutum yardımcıları ve çoğaltma başlıkları altında ayrıntılı olarak tartışılmıştır. Bu öğeler analiz edilmiş ve bu analizden önerilen iyileştirilmiş bir yetiştirme sistemi sentezlenmiştir.
