Known as Dobriç (Добрич) today, the city is one of the most important settlements of the region called Dobruca. In Turkish sources the city’s name appears as Hacıoğlu Pazarcık, Hacıoğlu Pazarı, Pazarcık, Hacıoğlupazarcığı. In the communist era the city’s name become Tolbuhin for a while. On 25 October 1949, the city of Dobrich was named after Fyodor Tolbuhin, the Soviet Marshal, and the city was restored to its former name Dobrich with the decision of the Bulgarian Presidency published in 1990. The city, founded by the Turks and ruled for about five centuries, was also the city where III. Ahmet, one of the Ottoman Sultans, was born. As an historical city, Dobrich hosted the most beautiful works of Rumeli civilization and contributed our history of science and culture by producing many scientists, intellectuals and artists throughout its history. Also, Hacıoğlupazarcığı was one of the important ranges for expeditions of the Ottoman armies to Rumeli for centuries. In our article, we tried to address this historical city of our history of science and culture with its yesterday and today.
