Küresel Isınmanın Etkileri: Lyme Hastalığına Hemşirelik Bakış Açısı

Abstract

Lyme hastalığı, küresel ısınmanın sağlık üzerine olan etkilerinden birinin etkisi olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Doğanın ve hayvan popülasyonlarının zarar görmesi; kenelerin aşırı artışı ve buna bağlı vektör hastalıkların artışına sebep olmaktadır. Lyme hastalığı, keneler ile bulaşan bir zoonozdur ve enfekte kene ısırığı ile insanlara bulaşır. Amerika ve Avrupa kıtalarında prevelansı artış gözlenirken; Türkiye’deki epidemiyolojik veriler sınırlıdır. Lyme hastaları genellikle ilk karşılaşılan yerler acil servis hemşireleri, okul veya iş yeri hemşireleri olabilmektedir. Bu nedenle hemşirelerin kene ısırıklarının tanınması, risk değerlendirmesinin yapılması, erken semptomların fark edilmesi ve uygun yönlendirmelerin sağlanması açısından kritik bir rolü bulunmaktadır. Çünkü kene ısırığı ile ilgili toplumsal farkındalık azdır ve buna bağlı korku endişe ve anksiyete oluşmaktadır. Lyme hastalığı konusunda ilk karşılama, tedavi ve bakım yönetimi, koruyucu önlemler hakkında eğitim ve toplumsal farkındalığın sağlanması açısından hemşirelerin rol ve sorumlulukların açıklanması adına bu makale kaleme alınmıştır.

Impacts Of Global Warming: A Nursing Perspective On Lyme Disease

Abstract

Lyme disease has emerged as one of the health-related consequences of global warming. Damage to natural ecosystems and animal populations has led to a significant increase in tick populations, resulting in a rise in tick-borne vector diseases. Lyme disease is an important zoonotic infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks. While an increasing prevalence of Lyme disease has been reported in North America and Europe, epidemiological data from Türkiye remain limited. Patients with Lyme disease are often first encountered by healthcare professionals such as emergency department nurses, school nurses, or occupational health nurses. Therefore, nurses play a critical role in recognizing tick bites, performing risk assessments, identifying early symptoms, and ensuring appropriate referral and follow-up. Public awareness regarding tick bites is generally low, which may lead to increased fear, anxiety, and uncertainty among individuals exposed to tick-related incidents. In this context, effective management of initial patient assessment, treatment, and nursing care, as well as education on preventive measures and public awareness, is of great importance. This article was written to clarify the roles and responsibilities of nurses in the initial management, care, and prevention of Lyme disease, and to contribute to improved early recognition and effective nursing interventions.
