Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hacısalihoğlu was born in Tonya, Trabzon, Turkey. He studied Turkish History at Ankara University and the History of Eastern and Southeastern Europe in Munich, Germany. He completed his master's thesis on The Image of Greece in Turkey (Türk Ansiklopedisi) and earned his PhD with a dissertation on The Young Turks and the Macedonian Question.

He has participated in several research projects in Germany, including Southeast European Toponymies and Comparison of Empires, and led the project The Image of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey in Contemporary History Textbooks in the Balkan and Black Sea Countries in Turkey.

Prof. Hacısalihoğlu is the founding director of the Center for Balkan and Black Sea Studies (BALKAR) at Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul. His primary research interests include the history of the Balkans in the 19th and 20th centuries, Russia, the Caucasus, and the Black Sea region—particularly the history of notables (ayans) in the Black Sea area.

He has published books, edited volumes, and numerous articles on a wide range of topics related to the Ottoman Empire, Balkan history, and the Black Sea region.

Prof. at the Department of Bulgarian History, Faculty of History at the university St. “Kliment Ohridski”. She has specialized at the American Research Institute in Turkey, 2011 (Istanbul) and with experience in the field of international relations being International officer at the State Archives Agency of Bulgaria. At present she is taking the position of Vice-Dean at the Faculty of History, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, with main fields of interest in Ottoman economic and demographic history during the Early modern times.

Halil Akkurt received his PhD in 2017 from Yıldız Technical University, specializing in the Principles of Atatürk and Modern Turkish History. He earned his MA in 2010 and his undergraduate degree in 2007, both from Marmara University’s Department of Teaching History.

He is the author of the book "Türkiye Solunda Osmanlı Toplum Yapısı Tartışmaları 1960-1980" [Debates on Ottoman Social Structure among Turkish Left 1960-1980] (İmge, 2020) and has written various articles published in social science journals. He co-edited "Yüzüncü Yılında II. Meşrutiyet" [Second Constitutional Period in Its Anniversary] (Yeni İnsan, 2008) and edited "Siyasal ve Entelektüel Tarihimizden Portreler" [Political and Intellectual Portraits from Turkey] (Tarihçi, 2021).

Dr. Akkurt has been awarded the PhD Scholarship from the Turkish Historical Society (2012-2016), the Young Social Scientists Award (2019) in the PhD thesis category by the Turkish Social Sciences Association, and the International Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2023) by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.

He worked as a visiting lecturer at Istanbul Arel University and Galatasaray University. He was a visiting researcher at the Leiden Institute for Area Studies (2023-2024). He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University.

emund Aarbakke studied philosophy, history of religions and ancient Greek at the University of Bergen, Norway. During his postgraduate studies on Balkan political history, which took place at the University of Copenhagen, he also attended courses at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Istanbul University, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, and Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje. He spent the academic year 1994-1995 at the Department of Near Eastern Studies, Princeton University on a Fulbright Scholarship. He received his PhD in history from the University of Bergen 2001. He has worked as researcher at the Chr. Michelsens Institute (Bergen), Centre for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (Bergen) and the International Peace Research Institute (Oslo). He has been teaching at the School of Political Sciences of the Aristotle University since 2004 with subject area modern Balkan politics. He has participated in several research projects and during the period 2014-15 he headed the research programme: Modernity battling tradition: the introduction of Kemalism to the Muslim minority of Western Thrace, 1920-1930. His research focuses on the study of minorities, refugees, Islam, democratisation and nationalism. 1968 yılında İstanbul – Fatih'te doğdum. Babam Asım Ağanoğlu Yugoslavya'nın Prijepolje (Sancak) şehrinde doğmuştur. Dedem Ahmet Ağanoğlu ve Babaannem Münire Hanım 1932 yılında İstanbul'a göç etmiştir.

Annem Leman Ağanoğlu Yugoslavya'nın Üsküp şehrinde 1934 yılında doğmuştur. Anneannem Havva hanım Üsküp'ün Blatza köyünden, Dedem Mecit Bey ise Üsküp'ün Kopanitza köyündendir. Annemlerin ailesi ise 1955 yılında İstanbul'a göç etmişlerdi. Annem ve babam 1967 yılında İstanbul'da evlendikten sonra, ailenin ilk çocuğu olarak ben ve daha sonra 1974 yılında kardeşim Yıldıray Ağanoğlu dünyaya gelmiştir.

İlk orta ve lise İstanbul’da bitirdikten sonra, 1985 yılında girdiğim İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Tarih Bölümü'nden 1989 yılında mezun oldum. 1988 yılında T.C. Başbakanlık Devlet Arşivleri Osmanlı Arşivi Daire Başkanlığı'nda resmi olarak göreve başladım. Çeşitli birimlerinde çalışmaktan gurur duyduğum kurumumda 2004 yılından itibaren Rumeli Araştırmaları Grup Başkanı olarak görev yapmaktayım.

1989-1991 yılları arasında askerlik vazifemi Piyade-Asteğmen olarak Tekirdağ'da tamamladım. 1991 yılında evlendim ve iki erkek iki kız dört çocuk sahibiyim.

1996 yılında İstanbul Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Tarihi Anabilim Dalında Yüksek Lisansa başladım. “Türkiye'de Göç ve Göçmen Meselesi, Balkan Harbi Sonrası Örneği(1912-1914)” adlı tezimle yüksek lisansımı başarı ile bitirdim. Rumeli kökenli bir ailenin çocuğu olmam hasebiyle annem ve babamın anlattığı göç hatıraları daima ilgimi çekti. Bu olay tez konumu seçmemdeki en önemli sebeplerden birini teşkil etmiştir. 2000 yılında Marmara Üniversitesi Türkiyat Enstitüsü Cumhuriyet Tarihi Anabilim Dalı'nda başladığım doktora eğitimime, ara vermek zorunda kaldım.

İlim ile uğraşmak için illa da akademik kariyer gerekmiyor düşüncesiyle, Balkanlar ve Göç ile ilgili kaleme aldığım tebliğlerim ile ulusal ve uluslar arası birçok panel ve sempozyuma katılmaya devam ediyorum. Balkanlar ile ilgili tarihten günümüze bir kültür köprüsü oluşturmak ana gayesiyle yazdığım yazılarım çeşitli dergi ve günlük gazetelerde yayınlanmıştır. Ayrıca çeşitli radyo ve tv programlarına katılarak Balkanlar'daki gelişmelerden Türkiye kamuoyunu haberdar etmeye çalışıyorum. Ayrıca Türkiye Yazarlar Birliği İstanbul Şubesi’ne ve İstanbul’da bulunan Türk Arşivciler Derneği'ne de üyeyim.
Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyete Balkanların Makus Talihi: Göç, Üsküp Kitabı, Arka Bahçemiz Üsküp, , II. Dünya Savaşı’nda Yugoslavya’da Bir Direniş Mücadelesi Yücel Teşkilatı, Tuna Nehrinde Yitik Bir Vatan Adakale, Ohri Gölünde Bir İnci: Struga, Ohri Halveti Hayati Asitanesi, Ohri-Struga Benim Vatanım, Bir Tasfiye ve Örtülü Sürgün Metodu olarak Balkanlardan Türkiye’ye Göçler (1923-2004), Balkanlarda Yetim Türkler, Bosna-İstanbul Yolunda Bir Sancak Şehri Priyepolye, Sultan II. Abdülhamid’den Günümüze Sancak ve Priyepolye adlı kitapların yazarıyım. Ayrıca 1896 Kosova Vilayeti Salnamesi, Türklerin Rumeli’ye Çıkışının 650. Yıldönümü 650. Yıl Sempozyumu, Köprüler Kurduk Balkanlara Sempozyumu adlı eserleri de yayına hazırladım.
TRT’de yayınlanan Balkanlar ve Göç adlı 14 bölümlük belgeselin danışmanlığını yaptım. Tek Rumeli tv’de İstanbul’dan Rumeli’ye ve Balkan Savaşı’ndan Balkan Barışına programlarını hazırlayıp sundum.

Gencer Özcan graduated from Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Sciences and received his PhD from Boğaziçi University. He worked at Marmara University (1983-1999) and Yıldız Technical University (1999-2009) before joining the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2009 as a faculty member. He was the Vice President of the Turkish Political Science Association, 2010-2017 and a member of the executive board of the Council of International Relations in Turkiye (2010-2018).  His research interests are diplomatic history, Turkey’s foreign and security policy-making process, the military’s role in shaping Turkey’s foreign policy decisions, Turkey’s policy towards the Middle East, and Turkish-Israeli relations. He recently published on Türkiye’s foreign policy and the conceptual and disciplinary history of International Relations in Türkiye.

He was born in Sivas in 1969. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Sivas. He started his university education in the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Gazi University. After completing his master's degree at the Institute of Social Sciences at the same university, he completed his doctoral education at the Institute of Social Sciences at Ankara University, Department of Modern History. Although his area of expertise is the History of the Caucasus, he is also interested in and conducts research on topics such as Ottoman-Russian Relations, Ottoman-Polish Relations, and Methods of Legitimizing Power. In order to conduct research and improve his Russian language skills while preparing his doctoral thesis, he had the opportunity to study at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow during the 2004-2005 academic year with a government scholarship. In the 2007-2008 academic year, he also studied at Warsaw University with a government scholarship within the scope of a TÜBİTAK research project titled "The Role of Polish Units in the Caucasian-Russian Struggle." Since 2006, he has been working as a faculty member at the Institute of Turkic World Studies at Ege University. He is married and has two children."
