Abstract

Orta Doğu tarihsel olarak gerek
jeostratejik bir yer olarak gerekse de sahip olduğu hidro-karbon kaynaklardan dolayı
önemli bir bölge olagelmiştir. Birçok açıdan değer üreten bu bölgeye dönemsel
başat güçlerin hiçbirisi kayıtsız kalmamıştır. 19. yüzyılın başat gücü olan Britanya
20. yüzyılın ilk yarısında da bu bölgenin yeniden şekillenmesi sürecine angaje olarak
çıkarlarını maksimize etmeye çalışmıştır. Bu çalışma, Britanya’nın 20. yüzyılın
ilk yarısında Irak, Mısır, Filistin ve İran’a yönelik angajmanlarının ekonomik
ve güvenlik boyutuna ve söz konusu angajmanlarda izlenen metodolojiye
odaklanmıştır. Çalışma söz konusu angajmanları değerlendiren bir sonuç bölümü
ile sonlandırılmıştır.

THE BRITISH ENGAGEMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST IN THE CONTEXT OF ECONOMIC INTERESTS AND SECURITY CONCERNS IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

Historically,
the Middle East region has always been at the center of attraction due to its
geostrategic location andhydro-carboon resources.  Dominant Powers of different ages have always
been interested in this asset generating region. As the region was being
reshaped in the first half of the 20th century, the dominant power of the 19th
century, Britain, engaged in the region to maximize its interests. This study focuses
on the economic and security scope of British engagements and the methodology applied
in Iraq, Egypt, Palestine and Iran during the first half of the 20th century. The
study ends with a conclusion evaluating the engagements.
