Author Guidelines
Bartın University Journal of Woman, Child and Family Studies (BARU-JWCFS) accepts original research articles, case reports, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, letters to the editor, and bibliometric studies prepared in accordance with scientific and ethical standards.
Works submitted by authors for evaluation must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under consideration by another journal. All authors are deemed to have approved the content of the work and its submission to the journal.
Manuscript submissions are accepted throughout the year. Publication planning is carried out according to the date on which the peer-review and editorial evaluation processes are completed. Only one work by the same author may be published in a single issue. If more than one work by the same author has been accepted, the order in which the works will be published is determined through editorial evaluation.
Papers presented at a scientific meeting but not previously published in full text may be considered for evaluation, provided that the name, place, and date of the meeting are clearly stated.
Academic ethics, editorial independence, and the prevention of conflicts of interest are among the fundamental publishing principles of BARU-JWCFS. In order to preserve editorial independence, the journal maintains a limited endogeneity (internal authorship) rate (0–15%). Works authored or co-authored by the Editor-in-Chief, an editor, field editor, Editorial Board member, or any individual involved in the journal’s editorial processes are evaluated through an independent editorial process in which the relevant individual is excluded from all stages of evaluation and decision-making. Editors with a conflict of interest withdraw from the evaluation process.
In order for works submitted to the journal to be considered for evaluation, they must be prepared in accordance with the journal’s manuscript template. Works that do not comply with the template and the author guidelines specified below are not considered for evaluation or may be returned to the author for the necessary revisions.
1. Article Type
The journal publishes original research articles, case reports, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, letters to the editor, and bibliometric studies.
2. Publication Language
The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English.
In each issue, 80% of the published works are in English and 20% are in Turkish.
For articles written in English, a Turkish abstract of 200–250 words is mandatory.
For articles written in Turkish, an extended English abstract of 750–1,000 words is mandatory.
Authors are responsible for grammar and academic expression.

For original research articles, the main text (excluding abstracts, tables, figures, and references): 5,000–7,000 words

5. Article Structure
Works must be prepared according to the scholarly structure specified in the manuscript template and appropriate to the publication type.
Original research articles must include the following sections in the order listed below:
Title
Abstract / Turkish Abstract
Keywords
Introduction
Method
Results
Discussion
Conclusion
Ethics Statement
Conflict of Interest Statement
Funding Information (if applicable)
References
Headings must not be numbered.
At the end of the work, before the references, and depending on the nature of the work, an author contribution statement, funding and acknowledgement statement, conflict of interest statement, ethics committee statement, and, if a generative artificial intelligence tool has been used, a statement regarding the scope of its use must be provided.
6. Title and Author Information
The title must be clear, concise, and reflective of the content of the work.
Author information must be provided on a separate title page.
Due to the double-blind peer-review process, author information must not appear in the main manuscript file.
The title page must include the following information:
Name and surname of the author(s)
Institutional and departmental affiliation
ORCID number
E-mail address of the corresponding author
Note: At the time of manuscript submission, author information must appear only on the “Title Page.” During the publication process, the corresponding author will be asked to provide the author information in the format specified in the “Article Template.”
After manuscript submission, no author may be added or removed and the order of authors may not be changed without the written consent of all authors. Authorship changes are handled in accordance with the journal’s ethical principles and COPE recommendations.
7. Abstract and Keywords
The abstract must include the aim, method, main findings, and conclusion of the study.
Abbreviations must not be used in abstracts.
Number of keywords: 3–5
Keywords must be listed in alphabetical order.
MeSH terms are preferred for studies in the health sciences, while APA / ERIC terms are preferred for studies in the social sciences.
If the work is derived from a master’s or doctoral thesis belonging to one of the authors or supervised by one of the authors, this must be stated immediately after the abstract section specified in the manuscript template.
8. Tables and Figures
Tables and figures must be numbered according to the order in which they are cited in the text.
Table titles must appear above the table, while figure captions must appear below the figure.
Tables and figures must be embedded in the text.
Necessary permissions must be obtained for previously published materials, and the source must be cited.
9. Ethical Principles
For studies involving human participants and requiring ethics committee approval, approval must be obtained from the relevant ethics committee.
The name of the ethics committee, decision date, and decision number must be clearly stated in the manuscript.
Where applicable, it must be explicitly stated that informed consent was obtained from participants.
Studies that do not require ethics committee approval must state this status together with its justification.
For studies requiring ethics committee approval, the relevant Ethics Committee Approval Document must be uploaded to the system at the time of submission. If the study falls within the scope of research that does not require ethics committee approval, a declaration to this effect must be provided and the necessary explanation must be included in the manuscript.
10. Conflict of Interest and Funding
Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
If the research has been supported by a fund or institution, this support must be clearly stated.
If there is no support, the following statement must be used:
“This research received no specific funding.”
11. Citations and References
The citation and reference format must comply with APA 7 (American Psychological Association, 7th edition).
In-text citations must be based on the author’s surname and year of publication.
The reference list must be arranged alphabetically.
Unnecessary self-citations should be avoided; only sources that are scientifically and directly relevant to the theoretical framework, method, findings, or discussion of the work should be included.
12. Similarity and Plagiarism Policy
All submissions are screened using Turnitin similarity detection software.
All works undergo similarity screening.
Acceptable overall similarity rate: 15%
Similarity from a single source must not exceed 3%.
Works exceeding these thresholds are not considered for evaluation.
13. Publication Frequency Policy for the Same Author
An author may publish a maximum of 1 work within a calendar year.
This rule applies to all authors. Editors and Editorial Board members are also subject to this rule.
The purpose is to increase publication diversity and preserve scientific impartiality.
14. Peer-Review Process
Bartın University Journal of Woman, Child and Family Studies (BARU-JWCFS) applies a double-blind peer-review system.
Each work accepted for peer review is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers.
Under the double-blind peer-review system, the identities of the authors are not disclosed to the reviewers, and the identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors.
The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief.
15. Endogeneity Policy
The internal authorship (endogeneity) rate in the journal is limited to a maximum of 15%.
Works authored or co-authored by the Editor-in-Chief, an editor, field editor, Editorial Board member, or other individuals involved in the journal’s editorial processes are subject to an independent editorial evaluation process in which the relevant individual is excluded from all stages of evaluation and decision-making.
Such works are evaluated according to the same scientific and ethical standards as other works and are sent to at least two independent reviewers.
16. Publication Fee
All manuscript submission, editorial evaluation, peer-review, and publication processes at Bartın University Journal of Woman, Child and Family Studies are free of charge.
Authors or their institutions are not charged any submission fee, editorial processing fee, peer-review fee, article processing charge (APC), page charge, color figure charge, DOI fee, language editing fee, publication fee, withdrawal fee, or any other fee under any name.
17. Copyright and License
For works accepted for publication, the Copyright and Publication Agreement Form must be signed by the authors and uploaded to the system.
Authors retain the copyright to their works published in the journal. By submitting their works to the journal, authors grant the Bartın University Journal of Woman, Child and Family Studies (BARU-JWCFS) the right of first publication and a non-exclusive publishing right to publish, archive, index, and distribute the published version in accordance with open-access principles.
Works published in the journal are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).
