Suyun Tedavi Amaçlı Kullanımı: Balneoterapi ve Hidroterapi

Abstract

Suyun terapötik amaçlı kullanımı, günümüzde de kullanılan, geleneksel tedavi yöntemlerinden biridir. Balneoterapi, ilaç dışı bir yöntem olarak, kaplıca ve kür merkezleri gibi pek çok kuruluşta koruyucu, tedavi edici ve rehabilitasyon amacıyla kullanılmaktadır. Balneoterapide tedavi edici primer etki termal ve mineralli sularla yapılan uygulamalarla olmaktadır. Bununla birlikte terapötik amaçla kullanılan çamurlar (peloidler), klimatolojik etkenler, diğer balneoterapi uygulamalarının (gaz banyoları, su altı masaj, duşlar, irrigasyon, içme kürleri, inhalasyon) da iyileşmeye etkisi bulunmaktadır. Hidroterapi kelimesi Latince’den türetilmiş olup "su tedavisi" anlamına gelmektedir. Balneoterapi uygulamalarında suyun kimyasal içeriği, hidroterapide ise suyun fiziksel özellikleri ön plandadır Hem balneoterapi hem de hidroterapi ağrıyı, tutukluğu azaltmak, postürü iyileştirmek, eklem hareket açıklığını arttırmak, dolayısıyla yaşam kalitesini iyileştirmek için geleneksel ve tamamlayıcı tedavi olarak kullanılmaktadır. Günümüzde balneoterapi ve hidroterapi yaygınlaşmakta ve bu da uygulanma oranını arttırmaktadır. Balneoterapi ve hidroterapi kullanım ve uygulamalarında eksiklikler ve yanlış yaklaşımlar olabilmektedir. Ancak, bu tedavilerin, gösterilen klinik ve semptomatik yararlarına rağmen, altında yatan biyolojik mekanizmalar henüz tam olarak açıklanamadığı için, modern tıptaki yeri hala tartışmalıdır. Bu nedenle balneoterapi ve hidroterapi tedavileri ilgili tıp uzmanlık dallarının tavsiye ve gözetiminde yapılmalı, yine fayda ve zararları açısından tıbbi değerlendirmelere göre karar verilmelidir.

Therapeutic Use of Water: Balneotherapy and Hydrotherapy

Abstract

The therapeutic use of water is one of the traditional treatment methods still used today. Balneotherapy, as a non-drug method, is used in many institutions such as spas and cure centers for preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitation purposes. The primary therapeutic effect in balneotherapy is the applications made with thermal and mineral waters. In addition, muds (peloids) used for therapeutic purposes, climatological factors, other balneotherapy applications (gas baths, underwater massage, showers, irrigation, drinking cures, inhalation) also have an effect on healing. The word hydrotherapy is derived from Latin and means "water therapy". Both balneotherapy and hydrotherapy are used as traditional and complementary treatments to reduce pain and stiffness, improve posture, increase joint range of motion, and thus improve quality of life. Today, balneotherapy and hydrotherapy are becoming widespread and this increases the rate of application. There may be deficiencies and wrong approaches in the use and application of balneotherapy and hydrotherapy. However, despite the demonstrated clinical and symptomatic benefits of these treatments, their place in modern medicine is still controversial, as the underlying biological mechanisms have not yet been fully elucidated. For this reason, balneotherapy and hydrotherapy treatments should be done under the advice and supervision of relevant medical specialties, and decisions should be made according to medical evaluations in terms of benefits and harms.
