Determination of mechanical properties of ferroboron reinforced copper composite which produced by the powder metallurgy technique
Abstract
In this study, mechanical properties of ferroboron reinforced copper composite which
produced by the powder metallurgy technique were studied. Fort his purpose, the
ferroboron reinforced particles were mixed into copper powders in the rate of 1-1.5-2-
2.5-3-3.5% in weight, than sintered at the temperature of 800-850-900 ºC. The
hardness and the transverse rupture strengths of the MMC samples that the density
measurements had done before and after the sintering were determined. In addition,the
microstructural characterization was carried out by SEM-EDS analysis. As a result of
SEM EDS, it was seen the sintering process at different temperatures was produced
different intermetallic compounds, and the increasing of the sintering temperature was
upgrade the mechanic features of the samples. It is determined that if the different
composition ratios were take into account, the hardness values were increased and the
transverse rupture strength was decreased whit increasing the rate of the reinforcement
particles.
