Çatışmayı Kodlamak: Gazze Savaşı'nda Medya Temsillerine İlişkin Stuart Hallian Analizi

Öz

Bu çalışma, Stuart Hall’un kültürel teorisi ışığında Gazze’deki soykırımın küresel medya temsillerini eleştirel bir şekilde incelemektedir. Ana akım Batı medyasının dilsel tercihleri ve çerçeveleme yöntemleri, "Öteki"nin ırkçılaştırılmasını ve hegemonik ideolojilerin yeniden üretimini nasıl sağladığı bağlamında analiz edilmektedir. Çalışmada temsiliyet, kodlama/kod çözme ve ideolojik hegemonya kavramları kullanılarak, medya dilinin tarafsız bir araç değil, aksine politik bir mücadele alanı olduğu savunulmaktadır. Bulgular, Batı medyasının İsrail’in eylemlerini "meşru müdafaa" olarak kodlarken Filistin direnişini "terörizm" olarak çerçevelediğini, ancak Küresel Güney ve dijital platformlardaki muhalif okumaların bu anlatılara meydan okuduğunu göstermektedir. Bu analiz, savaş gazeteciliğinde görünürlük ve meşruiyet politikalarının yapıbozuma uğratılması için Hall’un teorik çerçevesinin önemini vurgulamaktadır.

Encoding Conflict: A Stuart Hallian Analysis of Media Representations in the Gaza War

Öz

This paper employs Stuart Hall’s cultural theory to critically examine global media representations of the Gaza genocide. It emphasizes how news coverage constructs political identities, racializes the “Other,” and reinforces dominant ideological narratives. Using Hall’s concepts of representation, encoding/decoding, and ideological hegemony, the analysis explores how mainstream Western media frames Israeli actions through a lens of “self-defense” while labeling Palestinian responses as “terrorism.” The study argues that media language serves hegemonic functions by naturalizing political hierarchies. However, as the encoding/decoding model suggests, audiences—especially in the Global South—engage in oppositional readings that challenge dominant frames. Ultimately, this study demonstrates that media coverage is an active site of ideological contestation. Understanding this process through Hall’s theoretical lens is crucial for deconstructing the politics of visibility and legitimacy in contemporary wartime journalism.
