Phonetics and Etymology” The matter of semantic field of Turkic words is one of
the most significant and vital questions of the Tirkic linguistics. There is a connection
between the words “çekiç” using in Turkish and Uzbek languages in spite of expressing
different meanings of these words in aforesaid two languages. That connection
comes to light as a concept of beating while carrying out research into etymons of
these words. Also was revealed that the following words which were examined from the point of concept of beating were derived from the word “tokı” used in Old Turkic
language in meaning “to beat”; and the derivatives suffered to many phonetic changes;
these derivatives may connect with their root and each other inside the frame of
the concept of beating: in Old Turkic tokuş, sokuş, soğuş; in Turkish savaş, tokmak,
tokaç, çekiç, dövdü, döveç, döven, değirmen; in Uzbek çekiç/çäkiç, çökiç, çokmar and
in Karakalpak şökkiş.
