Integrating Songs into Lesson Planning for Vocabulary Development in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language

Year 2025, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 93 - 125, 15.06.2025

Abstract

Vocabulary development is widely acknowledged as one of the fundamental components of foreign language acquisition. In this context, songs represent effective tools for supporting vocabulary learning in the target language. This study aims to explore the use of songs in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Employing content analysis-a qualitative research method-the study evaluates the multifaceted impact of songs on language acquisition and their contributions to classroom practice. Within the scope of the research, songs appropriate for different language proficiency levels were selected and aligned with specific grammatical structures. Vocabulary groups associated with each song were identified, and a range of pedagogical activities was designed accordingly. The songs’ thematic elements, lexical categories, and recurring linguistic patterns were examined through descriptive analysis. The findings indicate that music not only enhances vocabulary acquisition in foreign language learning but also contributes to a more engaging, meaningful, and lasting learning experience. Additionally, based on existing literature and practical considerations, the study offers model lesson plans demonstrating how music-based instructional practices can be effectively integrated into Turkish language teaching. In this regard, the study aims to serve as a valuable resource for both practitioners and researchers in the field.

Yabancılara Türkçe Öğretirken Kelime Dağarcığını Geliştirmede Şarkılarla Ders Planlama

Year 2025, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 93 - 125, 15.06.2025
