Evaluation of Barriers on Sustainable Manufacturing in Supply Chains with the Full Consistency Method (FUCOM)

Abstract

Sustainable manufacturing in supply chains gains importance in today’s competitive environment in terms of dependence on natural resources, creating carbon emissions and generating waste. The negative effects of climate change such as floods, droughts and forest fires in many countries of the world increase the sensitivity of consumers to use products that are produced sensitive to environment, people and society. This study aims to identify and prioritize the barriers on sustainable manufacturing for an agricultural machinery manufacturing firm. FUCOM multi-criteria decision-making method was used to prioritize these barriers in economic, environmental, social and non-organizational categories. As a result of calculations; high capital costs, low investment returns and funds gap are detected as most important criteria. Prioritization of barriers from different perspectives is expected to help decision/policy makers in government and industry to mitigate these barriers effectively.

Öz

Tedarik zincirlerinde sürdürülebilir imalat, doğal kaynaklara bağımlılık, karbon emisyonu yaratma ve atık üretme bakımından günümüz rekabet ortamında önem kazanmaktadır. İklim değişikliğinin, dünyanın birçok ülkesinde sel, kuraklık, orman yangınları gibi olumsuz etkileri tüketicilerin çevreye, insana, topluma duyarlı üretilmiş ürün kullanma hassasiyetini artırmaktadır. Bu çalışma, bir tarım makineleri imalat işletmesi için sürdürülebilir imalat uygulamasının önündeki engelleri belirlemeyi ve önceliklendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu engelleri ekonomik, çevresel, sosyal ve organizasyon dışı kategorilerde önceliklendirmek için FUCOM çok kriterli karar verme yönteminden faydalanılmıştır. Yapılan hesaplamalar sonucunda, yüksek yatırım maliyetleri, düşük yatırım getirisi ve finansal fon eksikliği en önemli kriterler olarak tespit edilmiştir. Engellerin farklı açılardan önceliklendirilmesinin, hükümet ve sektördeki karar/politika yapıcıların bu engelleri etkili bir şekilde azaltmalarına yardımcı olması beklenmektedir.
