A Research on the Effects of Foreign Exchange Crisis on Production and Profitability of Business

Abstract

By the effect of globalization, the financial crises, that has gradually
become more frequent dating from the second half of 1980's, not only affects
the macroeconomic structure but also make major changes in the financial
structure and decisions of non - financial business organizations. The composition
of foreign exchange assets and liabilities, foreign trade structures
and the share of foreign investment become crucial factors on the performance
of business during macro financial crisis. In this analysis, the effects of
financial crisis on the performances of the firms listed in Istanbul Stock Exchange
Market and Manufacturing Durable Goods - Machine And Equipment
Sector which are grouped according to criteria “Foreign Exchange Risk”, “Foreign
Trade Risk” and the “Share of Foreign Investment”, during 2001 crisis
are analyzed by non parametric statistic tests.

2001 Şubat Döviz Krizinin İşletmelerin Üretim ve Karlılıklarına Etkisi Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Abstract

1980’lı yılların ikinci yarısından itibaren gittikçe sıklaşan aralıklarla
ortaya çıkan döviz krizleri, ekonomileri sadece makro boyutta etkilememekte,
aynı zamanda reel sektör olarak adlandırılan işletmelerin finansman
yapısında ve kararlarında da önemli değişiklikler oluşturmaktadır. İşletmelerin
döviz krizleri sırasındaki performanslarında; döviz varlık ve borçları-
nın kompozisyonu, dış ticaret yapıları ile yabancı sermaye katılımı önem
kazanmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, işletmelerin döviz krizlerinden etkilenme
derecelerini ölçmek amacıyla, İMKB Metal Eşya, Makine ve Teçhizat Sektöründe
faaliyet gösteren ve geliştirilen Döviz Pozisyonu Riski, Dış Ticaret
Riski kriterleri ile yabancı sermaye paylarına göre gruplandırılan işletmelerin,
2001 Şubat Krizi’ndeki performansları, kriz öncesine göre üretim
değişimi ve kriz dönemi kârlılıkları kullanılarak parametrik olmayan testler
vasıtasıyla incelenmiştir
