Current Perspectives of Calcium Hydroxide, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate and Biodentine Used in Direct Pulp Capping Treatments

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 127 - 135, 17.06.2022

Abstract

Dental pulp vitality is important for maintaining tooth health and function. The aim of direct pulp capping treatments is to maintain the vitality of the tooth. The properties of pulp capping materials are important in the success of the treatment. Calcium hydroxide has been used as the popular several decades. Calcium hydroxide has excellent antibacterial properties. Provides reparative dentin formation. However, calcium hydroxide is easily soluble and provides a poor seal. Due to such disadvantages, alternative materials have been producted. Mineral Trioxide Aggregate is nonsoluble. And more effective than calcium hydroxide as a direct pulp capping material. However, the setting time is longer than calcium hydroxide and it is expensive. Therefore, the number of sessions and the cost of the treatment increase. Biodentine (Septodont) allows the treatment to be completed in an one session with it is short setting time. However, it is low radiopacity makes clinical follow-up difficult. Calcium hydroxide, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate and Biodentine reveal different properties from each other in these aspects. The aim of this review article is to research the properties of calcium hydroxide, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate and Biodentine used in direct pulp capping treatment with current data.

Direkt Pulpa Kaplaması Tedavilerinde Kullanılan Materyallere Güncel Bir Bakış

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 127 - 135, 17.06.2022
