Abstract

Satranç, düşünme ve strateji yeteneklerini geliştirme amacıyla sadece bir spor dalı olmanın ötesinde arkeoloji, edebiyat, felsefe ve sanat gibi çeşitli alanlarda da önemli bir konu olarak ele alınmaktadır. Farklı tarihlerde ve coğrafyalarda çeşitli malzemelerle şekillendirilmiş satranç takımları, sanatçılar ve tasarımcılar tarafından çeşitli form, renk ve dokularla zenginleştirilerek özgün bir sanatsal ifade aracına dönüşmektedir. Bu çalışma, modern teknolojilerin (3D yazıcı ve CNC teknolojileri gibi) kullanımıyla geleneksel satrancı günümüz tasarım anlayışıyla buluşturmayı amaçlamıştır. Çalışma bu amaç doğrultusunda nitel araştırma yöntemleri ve literatür taraması yanı sıra müze ziyaretleriyle desteklenmiş, satrancın tarihsel gelişimi ve farklı malzemelerle tasarlanmış satranç takımlarının incelenmesi üzerine odaklanmıştır. Özellikle seramik malzemeden üretilen özel bir satranç takımının tasarım süreci, bu anlamda önemli bir adım olarak sunulmuştur. “Kast” kavramının satranç tablasında felsefi bir tasarım unsuru olarak ele alınmasıyla, tasarımın özgünlüğü ve teknoloji tabanlı üretim yöntemlerinin vurgulanması, tasarımcı ve sanatçılar için ilham verici bir örnek oluşturması beklenmektedir.

Chess as a Universal Game and Chess Set Design with Ceramic Material

Abstract

Chess is considered not only a sport to improve thinking and strategy skills, but also an important subject in various fields such as archaeology, literature, philosophy and art. Chess sets shaped with various materials in different dates and geographies are enriched with diverse forms, colors and textures by artists and designers, turning into a unique tool of artistic expression. This study aimed to combine traditional chess with today’s design approach through the use of modern technologies (such as 3D printing and CNC technologies). For this purpose, the study was supported by qualitative research methods and literature review, as well as museum visits, and focused on the historical development of chess and the examination of chess sets designed with different materials. The design process of a special chess set, especially made of ceramic material, is presented as an important step in this context. By considering the concept of “caste” as a philosophical design element on the chessboard, it is expected to emphasize the originality of the design and technology-based production methods and set an inspiring example for designers and artists.
