Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Version of the Parents’ Perceptions of the Complementary Baby-Led Weaning Feeding Method Questionnaire (PaPerc-BLW Questionnaire)

Abstract

Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a process in which infants use their instincts and abilities to self-feed during their transition to solid food. This study aimed to test the validity and reliability of parents’ perceptions of the Complementary Baby-Led Weanıng Feeding Method Questionnaire (PaPerc-BLW questionnaire) in Turkey. This study was conducted with 200 parents with 0-6 months-old babies using a descriptive correlation method. Data were collected using a “Family Information Form” and the “PaPerc-BLW Questionnaire”. Data analysis and evaluation were performed using factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and item–total score correlation. The scale consists of 13 items and two sub-dimensions. The two sub-dimensions recorded a variance of 59.34%. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the Turkish version of the scale was 0.88. The two-week test-retest reliability, evaluated using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, was 0.98. In the Confirmatory factor analysis, all fit indices were >0.85, and the root mean square error of the approximation was 0.07. This study determined that The PaPerc-BLW questionnaire is a valid and reliable measurement tool for Turkish parents.
