Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Training Programs Given To Nursing Students on Nanotechnology

This study was planned to evaluate the efficiency of the education given to nursing students on nanotechnology. This quasi-experimental study was conducted in March 2018 with on 135 students in Health College of Nursing. Data were collected by using questionnaire forms, which had been administered twice, including before (pretest) and two weeks after an one-hour education on nanotechnology (post-test). In statistical analysis, number, percentage, mean, Mc-Nemar test and Friedman Two-Way Variance Analysis were used. The mean age of the students was 22.71±1.12. Sixty-five point nine of the students stated that they followed the professional development, 32.6% were interested in nanotechnology and 80.0% of them wanted to work in the hospitals where nanotechnology was used. It was determined that the knowledge points of the students about nanotechnology were low before the training in 27 questions and they increased in a positive way after the training. There was also a statistically significant difference between pre-education and post-training (p<0.001). At the same time, it was seen that there was a very significant difference between the total mean score of the students before the training (15.45 ± 7.80) and the mean score after the training (23.16 ± 5.12) (p<0.001). It was determined that the training given to nursing students increased the knowledge level of students. It is recommended that the nursing department students should also be informed about the nanotechnology that is becoming increasingly popular in the field of health that includes nursing.
