The research took place in with the aim of determining mothers' habit of washing their babies in infancy
at Istanbul Esenyurt State Hospital and Bakırköy Sadi Konuk Educational and Research Hospital. The research took
place in pediatric services of Istanbul Esenyurt State Hospital and Bakırköy Sadi Konuk Educational and Research
Hospital with 200 babies of 1 month-1 year of age, who were treated prior to discharge between October 2012 and
January 2013. Data were obtained in accordance with the literature and expert opinion, using a questionnaire
developed by researchers and consultants. Mothers surveyed a total of 82 questions in the questionnaire which was administered with face to face interviews. As a result, the majority of mothers (49.5%) appeared to be primary school
graduates and the vast majority (93.5%) was unemployed. 69% of the families was determined to have moderate
income. The average age of babies was found to be 8.49 ± 2.35 months. It was seen that 70% of mothers care about
brand in the selection of baby shampoo, 79.5% of them wash the body of their babies with orlon fibers, and 85,5% of
them bath their babies pouring water. It was determined that 28.5% of the mothers' do massage to their baby after
every bath, and that 82% of them did not take any measures against the host formation. It was observed that 57.5% of
the mothers had received training about bath, and 54% of the trainees' were trained by their families. It was
determined that 90% of mothers had intermediate level of knowledge about baby bath. The results show that, after
giving birth, mothers should be given practical baby bath training.
