Integrated Production and Distribution Scheduling: A Systematic Review of Problem Characteristics and Solution Methods

Abstract

The integrated approach to scheduling production and distribution activities, along with the development of solution methods, has been extensively studied due to industrial demand. This paper presents a systematic review of the classification characteristics of integrated production and distribution scheduling (IPDS). The granular decomposition method is utilized as the systematic review methodology. We provide a classification of problem characteristics and solution methods to identify research trends and gaps. The research was conducted using two primary search databases: Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). In total, we identify relevant articles published between 2010 and 2025. We highlight the current state of the art and future directions of the IPDS problem.
