Recent regulations require the owners of buildings whose construction areas
are at least twenty thousand meter square to perform feasibility studies for cogeneration
systems as a part of the heating and air-conditioning systems. In the first part of the paper,
for a specific commercial building, four alternative heating and air-conditioning systems
are determined, compared and the most economical one is selected. Then, the cogeneration
system is adapted and its economical feasibility is illustrated. Sensitivity analysis is also
performed for the application of the cogeneration system by changing prices of fuel and
electricity. The paper clearly illustrates the economic advantages of using cogeneration
systems within the heating and air-conditioning systems.
