EFFECT OF DIET ON FATTY ACID COMPOSITION OF FRESHWATER SNAIL Theodoxus syriacus (BOURGUIGNAT, 1853) (GASTROPODA: PROSOBRANCHIA)

Year 2010, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 45 - 52, 01.03.2010

Abstract

Anatolian fauna contains a lot of freshwater snail species. Most of them are endemic to Anatolia. There aren’t enough detailed studies on biochemical structures of freshwater snail in Turkey. In this study, it is aimed that what are the effects of algae on lipid contents and fatty acid composition of freshwater snail. Total body lipids of Theodoxus syriacus, collected from Sultanköy (Mardin) spring water, were fractionated by thin layer chromatography. Total lipid, phospholipid and neutral lipid of the snail and snail food lipid were analyzed by capillary gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. In the analyses, among saturated fatty acids C10:0 (capric), C12:0 (lauric), C14:0 (myristic), C15:0 (pentadecanoic), C16:0 (palmitic), C17:0 (heptadecanoic), C18:0 (stearic); among monounsaturated fatty acids C16:1ω7 (palmitoleic), C18:1ω9 (oleic), C20:1ω9 (eicosenoic) and among polyunsaturated fatty acids C18:2ω6 (linoleic), C18:3ω3 (α-linolenic), C20:2ω6 (eicosadienoic), C20:4ω6 (arachidonic) and C20:5ω3 (eicosapentaenoic) acids were obtained. In all analyses, C16:0 and C18:1ω9 acids were found as major components. Some proportional differences were observed among fatty acids of phospholipid, neutral, total and algal lipids. Major fatty acids were similar both in snail and its diet.

TATLISU SALYANGOZU Theodoxus syriacus (BOURGUIGNAT, 1853) (GASTROPODA: PROSOBRANCHIA)’un YAĞ ASİTİ BİLEŞİMİNE BESİNİN ETKİSİ

Year 2010, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 45 - 52, 01.03.2010

Abstract

Analizlerde, doymuş yağ asitlerinden C10:0 (kaprik), C12:0 (laurik), C14:0 (miristik), C15:0 (pentadekanoik), C16:0 (palmitik), C17:0 (margarik), C18:0 (stearik); tekli doymamış yağ asitlerinden C16:1ω7 (palmitoleik), C18:1ω9 (oleik), C20:1ω9 (eikosenoik) ve çoklu doymamış yağ asitlerinden C18:2ω6 (linoleik), C18:3ω3 (α-linolenik), C20:2ω6 (eikosadienoik), C20:4ω6 (araşidonik), C20:5ω3 (eikosapentaenoik) asitler saptandı.
