The Assessment Of The Medical Faculty Students' Avoidance Attitudes From Covid-19: The Case Of Izmir Katip Celebi University

Abstract

Objective: It was aimed to evaluate the avoidance attitudes from COVID-19 of Izmir Katip Celebi University, Faculty of Medicine students according to their status of having COVID-19 and their relatives’ having COVID-19, their place of residence, environment, and the way they went to the faculty. Material and Methods: The data of this research were collected from the students of İzmir Katip Celebi University, Faculty of Medicine, through an online questionnaire in the fall semester of 2020-2021. Personal Information Form and Avoidance Attitudes Scale from COVID-19 were used as data collection tools. IBM SPSS 25 (IBM Corp. Released 2017. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 25.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.) statistical package program was used to evaluate the data. Continuous and categorical variables were expressed using median (IQR), percentage and frequency values, respectively. The assumption of normal distribution of the variables was evaluated with the Shapiro Wilk test and the assumption of homogeneity of variances was evaluated with the Levene Test. The Mann Whit-ney U test was used for the comparison of two independent groups, the Kruskal Wallis test for comparisons of more than two independent groups, and the Dunn-Bonferroni test, one of the pairwise comparison tests, were used to evaluate the scores of cognitive and behavioral avoidances and the total score of the avoidance attitudes from COVID-19. The relationships between cognitive, behavioral avoidance, and total scores of the avoidance attitudes from COVID-19 were evaluated with the Spearman correlation coefficient, the internal consistency reliability of the cognitive, behavioral avoidances and the avoidance attitudes from COVID-19 were calculated using the Cronbach alpha coefficient. A value of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean age and standard deviation of 230 students participating in the study were 20.30±1.75 years and 53.5% of them were female. 15.2% of the participants were students who had COVID-19 disease. When the distribution of behavioral avoidance and avoidance attitudes total score was compared according to gender, a statistically significant difference was found (p=0.035; p=0.047). Conclusion: It was determined that the total score of the avoidance attitudes scale from COVID-19 and behavioral avoidance sub-dimension scores distributions of female students at Izmir Katip Celebi University Faculty of Medicine were higher when compared to male students. No statistically significant difference was found when the total score distributions of the avoidance attitudes according to the status of having COVID-19 and their relatives, the place of residence, the environment, and the way they went to faculty were examined.

Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Covıd-19’dan Kaçınma Tutumlarının Değerlendirilmesi: İzmir Kâtip Çelebi Üniversitesi Örneği

Abstract

Amaç: İzmir Kâtip Çelebi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin COVID-19 geçirme durumu, yakınlarının geçirme durumu, yaşanılan yer, ortam ve okula gitme şekillerine göre COVID-19’dan kaçınma tutumlarının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve yöntemler: Araştırmaya ait veriler, İzmir Kâtip Çelebi Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi öğrencilerinden, 2020-2021 güz döneminde çevrimiçi anket aracılığı ile toplanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve COVID-19 Kaçınma Tutumları Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde IBM SPPS 25 (IBM Corp. Released 2017. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 25.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.) istatistik paket programı kullanılmıştır. Sürekli değişkenler medyan (IQR), kategorik değişkenler, yüzde ve frekans değerleri kullanılarak ifade edilmiştir. Değişkenlere ait normal dağılım varsayımı Shapiro Wilk testi ve varyansların homojenliği varsayımı Levene Testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bilişsel, davranışsal kaçınma ve kaçınma tutumları toplam puanının değerlendirilmesinde bağımsız iki grup karşılaştırmalarında Mann Whitney U test, ikiden fazla bağımsız grup karşılaştırmalarında Kruskal Wallis testi ve Dunn-Bonferroni test kullanılmıştır. Bilişsel, davranışsal kaçınma ve kaçınma tutumları toplam puanları arasındaki ilişki Spearman korelasyon katsayısı, ölçeğe ait iç tutarlılık güvenirliği Cronbach alpha katsayısı kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. p<0.05 değeri istatistiksel olarak önemli kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan 230 öğrencinin yaş ortalama ve standart sapması 20.30±1.75 yıldır ve %53.5’inin cinsiyeti kadındır. Katılımcıların %15.2’sini COVID-19 hastalığı geçiren öğrenciler oluşturmuştur. Davranışsal kaçınma ve COVID-19’dan kaçınma tutumları toplam puanı dağılımı cinsiyete göre karşılaştırıldığında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık saptanmıştır (p=0.035; p=0.047). Sonuç: İzmir Kâtip Çelebi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi kadın öğrencilerin COVID-19’dan kaçınma tutumları toplam puanı, davranışsal kaçınma alt boyutu puanı dağılımları erkek öğrenciler ile karşılaştırıldığında daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. COVID-19 geçirme durumu, yakınlarının geçirme durumu, yaşanılan yer, ortam ve okula gitme şekillerine göre COVID-19’dan kaçınma tutumları toplam puan dağılımları incelendiğinde istatistiksel olarak önemli farklılık bulunmamıştır.
