Reactions with 3,5-Dioxoamlides. I Reactions with 5-Phenylcyc- lohexane-1,3-dione-4-carboxanilide

Abstract

The title compound w?s found to react with aldehydes togive, according to conditions, the 2-arylmethylene 2 and xanthene 4, derivatives; with 2-nitrostyrene to give the benzo- furan 5; with phenyl isocyanate to give phenylcarbamoyl derivative 6; with diazonium salts to give the hydrazone compounds 7; vvith aromatic amines to give anils 8; and vvith bromine to give the 2-bromo derivative 10. Compounds 1 and 10 were cyclised with sulphuric acnid to yield the quinoline derivatives 9 and 11. The bromo compound 10 also gave a thiazolo derivative 12.
