An Investigation into the Effect of Mental Toughness on Problem-Solving Skills among Frisbee Players

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of frisbee players' mental toughness levels on their problem-solving ability. Method: A total of 99 frisbee players, including professional, amateur, and recreational players, participated in the study. The mental toughness scale and problem-solving inventory were used to collect data for the study. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the SPSS 25 programme. Results: According to the research findings, a statistically significant difference was detected in the regression model as a result of multiple regression between the problem-solving subscale and the mental toughness scale (MTS) (p<0.05). The explanatory level of the regression model was found to be moderate (R = .578, R² = .334). The findings showed that it explained approximately 33% of the variance in the mental toughness scale. When the regression coefficient was examined, no significant regression relationship was found in the impulsive style, reflective style, problem-solving confidence subscale, avoidant style, and monitoring subscale (p>0.05). A negative significant relationship was found in the planfulness subscale (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of the study revealed that planfulness, one of the problem-solving skills, is an important determinant of mental resilience in frisbee players, while impulsive style, reflective style, problem-solving confidence, avoidant style, and monitoring sub-dimensions are not determinants of mental resilience.
