The relationships between passive transfer failure and neonatal diseases in calves in Burdur province

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine if calves reached passive immunity after birth and had any disease during the neonatal period. Materials and Methods: In this study, we determined 50 cows close to birth in the center and villages of Burdur and renewed with the breeder by determining the e-breeding program. Blood was taken from the calves and centrifuged 48 hours after birth. We determined total protein and GGT (gamma-glutamyl transferase) values in the laboratory of the Burdur Mehmet Akif University Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between these values. We stored residue serum at -28°C, and we determined that there were no statistically significant differences in immunoglobulin G (IgG) values. We observed during the neonatal period in the calves used in our study and we recorded whether they had any disease during this period. Conclusion: In 18 of 50 calves (36%), Escherichia coli, in 6 (12%) Cryptosporidiosis, in 1 (2%), Rotavirus (2%) and in 1 Coronavirus (2%) were detected. One of these calves died. The results of the ELISA test showed that all calves had access to passive immune transfer.
