The Militant Islamist Movements in Central Asia and Wahhabism

Abstract

In this paper I want to discuss the impact of Wahhabism which is Central Arabian fundamentalist religious movement founded by Muhammad b. Abd al-Wahhab in 1744, on the radical militant islamist movements operating secretly in Central Asia. The Wahhabi Movement was partly introduced to Central Asia by way of Indian Wahhabi teachers and partly Central Asian pligrims who are influenced from wahhabi teachings and especially the propagation of Saudia Arabian wahhabi teachers on Central Asia during and after indipendence of the Central Asian Turkic Republics. Boths communialistic-authoritarian structure of these radical groups and the teachings related to the terror prodused in these formations have been influental on the increase the number of religious terrorist-oriented people
