Folk Beliefs and Practices in a Middle Anatolian Village Following the Sunni Tradition

Abstract

In this study, it is examined folk beliefs and practices in a middle Anatolian village. In first part of the paper, there has been main information on research design, problem, methods, and sampling. In second part, it is classified folk beliefs and practices into four chapters: 1. Beliefs and Practices on Significant Life Cycles, 2. Beliefs and Practices on Collective Prayers, 3. Beliefs and Practices on Living-Lifeless Beings, Events, and Phenomenons, 4. Beliefs and Practices on Traditional Folk Medicine. Every chapter is divided into some subheads and determined main beließ and practices, such as birth, marriage, death, collective prayers, animals, fire, human body, gender, objects, plants, trees, fortune, stone and water cults, darkness, special days, months, and seasons, atmosphere events, house, fertility, and traditional folk medicine.
