Abstract

Year 2024, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 235 - 250, 31.10.2024

Abstract

Communication within the family plays a vital role in individuals' social development and interpersonal communication skills. As the first social environment of individuals, the family shapes early communication skills which are then reflected in broader social relationships. The types of relationships that an individual forms from birth have a positive or negative impact on his/her relationships in later life. In this context, the impact of narcissism on individuals is portrayed as destructive in the movie analysed. It is obvious that the manipulated party struggles to leave the relationship but begins to recover after various psychological battles. The movie "Mon Roi" powerfully reveals the impact of narcissism on couples and their lives.
This study aims to reveal the types of manipulation individuals experience in relationships affected by narcissism. Mon Roi, a film directed by Maïwenn, delves deeply into the destructive effects of narcissism on interpersonal relationships. The film centres on Tony and his complex, toxic relationship with Georgio. While Georgio initially attracts Tony with his charismatic and charming personality, he gradually undermines the relationship through his narcissistic behaviour.
Georgio's manipulative behaviour reduces Tony's confidence and makes him emotionally dependent. While the film illustrates the adverse effects of narcissism on individuals’ psychological health of, it also highlights Tony's transformation during rehabilitation and his efforts to rediscover himself. In this context, the character developments in the movie allow the audience experience the destructiveness of narcissistic relationships and the challenges of recovery.
In conclusion, Mon Roi stands out as a production that effectively reflects the impact of narcissism on individuals and the dynamics of toxic relationships. The movie prompts the audience to reflect on the complexity of love and the journey of personal healing.
