Abstract

The work named 'Muslim Nationalism and the New Turks' written by the social anthropologist Professor Jenny White, who lived in Turkey for a while and received her master's degree at Hacettepe University, analyzes the social, political, ethnic, cultural and religious processes from late Ottoman period to the Republic of Turkey. In addition, the data attained by Jenny White from field studies in Turkey (participatory observation, interview, survey etc.) are also included in the work. The work, which was published under the name of 'Muslim Nationalism and the New Turks' from Princeton University publications in the USA in 2013, was translated into Turkish language by Iletişim Publications in the same year. The work, it consist of six section, a conclusion and an afterword, starting with the acknowledgment and introduction.

Jenny White’ın “Müslüman Milliyetçiliği ve Yeni Türkler” Adlı Eserinin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Türkiye’de bir süre yaşamış ve Hacettepe Üniversitesinde yüksek lisans eğitimi de almış olan sosyal antropolog Profesör Jenny White tarafından kaleme alınan ‘Müslüman Milliyetçiliği ve Yeni Türkler’ adlı eser, Osmanlı’nın son dönemlerinden günümüze geniş yelpazede Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin toplumsal, siyasal, etnik, kültürel ve dini süreçlerini analiz etmektedir. Ayrıca Jenny White’ın Türkiye’de saha çalışmalarından (katılımlı gözlem, mülakat, anket vb.) elde ettiği veriler de eserde yer almaktadır. 2013 yılında ABD’de Princeton Üniversitesi yayınlarından ‘Muslim Nationalism and the New Turks’ adıyla basılan eser, aynı yıl İletişim Yayınları tarafından Türkçe ’ye tercüme edilmiştir. Eser; teşekkür ve giriş bölümüyle başlayarak, altı ana bölüm, sonuç ve sonsöz bölümlerinden meydana gelmektedir.
