In order to make it certain in the Arabic language, the letter alef and lam are put in front of the names. These are often called “Lam-i ta‛rîf”. These letters, whose main purpose is to identify an unspecified name, in some cases also add different meanings to the names they belong to. Knowing these meanings is important for the Qur’an translations. When talking about a place known to the interlocutors, generalizing it, spreading a general sentence to certain individuals, or making comments to the contrary, are encountered as a problem in the translations of the Qur’an. In order to solve this problem, in this study, firstly, the framework of the concept of “Alef Lam” will be drawn and then different uses in the Qur’an will be presented. It will be determined how these different uses cause translation problems on some selected the Turkish Qur’an translations. After determining the problem, translation suggestions will be tried to be presented on how to overcome this problem.
