Status Quo of Quality Roughage Resources in Turkey

Abstract

Quality roughage production and forage plants play a key role for the development of livestock industry. In addition to this, feed and feeding costs which cover as big a part of the production phase as %70 in livestock breeding, have a considerable impact on the profitability of the establishment. When the fact that issues such as efficiency and quality affects the profitability of the establishment is taken into consideration, it is an absolute necessity to feed the livestock with quality roughage. While the countries that have developed forage plant and livestock industries do not seem to have a problem concerning quality roughage production, the potential of quality roughage production of our country is inadequate. That being said, it has shown a year-on-year increase. This article will attempt to address the current state of quality roughage production that is a necessity for the existing livestock population of our country, quality roughage demand and solution offers.
