Abstract
Pleural effusion due to pleuroperitoneal communication is not
a common complication in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis
(CAPD). It usually occurs as a result of diaphragmatic defect and develops on
the right hemithorax. Pleuroperitoneal leak should be considered in the
differantial diagnosis of a transudative pleural effusion. We present the case
of a 42-year-old woman treated with CAPD who had acute shortness of breath and
ultrafiltration loss as a result of pleural effusion due to pleuroperitoneal
leak.

Abstract
Sürekli ayaktan periton diyalizi (SAPD) hastalarında plöroperitoneal
geçişlere bağlı plevral effüzyon gelişimi sık rastlanan bir komplikasyon
değildir. Genellikle diafragmatik defektlere bağlı olarak gelişmekte ve
sıklıkla sağ tarafta ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu durumun, transüda özelliği olan
plevral effüzyonların ayırıcı tanısında yer alması gerekir. Burada SAPD
tedavisi olan 42 yaşında bir kadın hastada ani gelişen nefes darlığı ve
ultrafiltrasyon kaybı ile ortaya çıkan plöroperitoneal geçiş ile ilişkili
plevral effüzyon sunulmuştur.
