Examining the Child Labor Studies in the International Literature through Bibliometric Method and Content Analysis from a Public Health Perspective

Abstract

Child labor continues to be a persistent public health issue on the world agenda for an extended period. While disasters affecting the world impact many communities, the destructive effects are often observed on children. The aim of this research is to examine child labor from a public health perspective through bibliometric analysis and content analysis. The study reveals citation connections among authors and articles using the Web of Science database, with data collected on October 17, 2023. Analyses, conducted with the VOSviewer program, involve co-word analysis, co-citation analysis, citation analysis, and co-authorship analysis. Within the research context, it is observed that studies originating from America receive the most citations. All research in the field of child labor from a public health perspective is in English, with the majority of publications falling under the categories of public, environmental, and occupational health. The author with the most publications is Wieland, and the author with the most citations is Ullrich Bauer. It is noted that all publications are in English. Content analysis focuses on the causes, effects, consequences, and proposed solutions of child labor. The conclusion is drawn that increasing awareness among public health experts is crucial to attract more attention to this field.

Bibliyometrik Yöntem ve İçerik Analiziyle Halk Sağlığı Perspektifinden Çocuk İşçiliği Çalışmalarının Uluslararası Literatürdeki Durumu

Abstract

Çocuk işçiliği dünya gündeminde uzun süre sorun olmaya devam edecek bir halk sağlığı sorunudur. Dünyanın yaşadığı felaketler birçok toplumu etkilemekle birlikte yıkıcı etkiler çoğunlukla çocuklar üzerinde görülmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı bibliyometrik analiz ve içerik analiziyle çocuk işçiliğine halk sağlığı penceresinden bakmaktır. Web of Science veri tabanı kullanılmış veriler 17.10.2023 tarihinde çekilmiştir. Analizler VOSwiever programıyla eş kelime, ortak atıf, atıf ve ortak yazarlık şeklinde yapılmıştır. Araştırma bağlamında en çok Amerika orjinli çalışmaların atıf aldığı görülmüştür. Halk sağlığı perspektifiyle çocuk işçiliği alanındaki araştırmaların tamamının İngilizce dilinde olduğu, en fazla yayının kamu çevre ve iş sağlığı kategorisinde olduğu görülmüştür. Konu bağlamında en fazla yayın yapan yazar Wieland, en çok atıf alan yazar Ullrich Bauer olmuştur. Yınların İngilizce olduğu görülmüştür. İçerik analizinde çocuk işçiliğinin nedenlerine, etkilerine, sonuçlarına ve çözüm önerilerine odaklandığı görülmüştür. Bu alana ilgiyi daha çok çekmek için halk sağlığı uzmanlarının farkındalıklarının arttırılmasının önemli olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
