THE COMPARISON OF HEAVY METAL ACCUMULATION RATIOS IN MUSCLE, SKIN AND GILL OF NON-MATURATED COMMON CARP
Abstract
In this study, Heavy metal bioaccumulation ratios of muscle, skin and gill of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Enne Dame Lake fed with hot spring water (in Kütahya) were investigated. The analyses of Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni, Fe, Ca, Mg, Cr, Co and B were performed with Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Cd with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). It was found that the metal levels of muscle were extremely lower than gill (p0.05). While B had the third highest concentration followed by Mg and Ca in the water of the lake, it was not encountered in any tissue. The heavy metal accumulation orders were as follows for the tissues: Ca>Mg>Zn>Fe>Cd in muscle, Ca>Mg>Zn>Fe>Cd in gill and Ca>Mg>Fe>Zn>Cd in skin. It was found that the metal levels of muscle were extremely lower than gill (p<0.05). The heavy metal accumulation orders were as follows for the tissues: Ca>Mg>Zn>Fe>Cd in muscle, Ca>Mg>Zn>Fe>Cd in gill and Ca>Mg>Fe>Zn>Cd in skin.
