INVESTIGATION OF CaSO4.2H2O ADDITION TO KAOLIN USED IN PORCELAIN PRODUCTION
Abstract
In this study, the effects on the rheology of kaolin-based ceramic suspension of sulphate salt with Ca+2 cation were investigated. Drying and firing behaviors of ceramic structure obtained from this suspension by using casting and semi solid shaping methods were also studied. Viscosity, plasticity, drying and physico-mechanical characteristic tests for suspension formed by adding CaSO4.2H2O to Kaolin were applied. It was observed that the ratio of 0.25 % - 0.50 % CaSO4.2H2O decreased the viscosity of kaolin. It was determined that this ratio is adequate for plasticity in semi-solid shaping. This ratio affects the drying behaviors positively and also improves the physico-mechanical characteristics. On the other hand, it was observed that this ratio deteriorate the color of ceramic structure.
