THE EXAMINATION OF METALLURGICAL PROPERTIES OF WELDED 6351 ALUMINUM ALLOYS WITH INERT GAS METHODS
Abstract
In this research, 6351 aluminum alloys utilized in automotive, aircraft and defense industries are welded by using inert gas methods. At the end of processes, mechanical and micro-structural properties of welding area have been investigated and results have been compared. As a result, it has been determined that mechanical properties of welding metal are primarily dependent on is chemical composition. It has been concluded that tensile strength and hardness properties of aluminum alloy have been increased by TIG welding application. It has also been observed that regarding elongation percentage of tensile strength and yield point criteria, TIG application has shown better specifications than MIG applications. Hardness of welding metal is close in to each other in both TIG and MIG welding. Metallographic tests represent that TIG welding results in thinner particle size while MIG has coarser particles size.
