INVESTIGATION OF PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS CHANGE OF PINUS NIGRA AND ITS USE WATER COOLING TOWERS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Wolmanit-CB and Protim WR230 as wood

preservatives for water cooling towers. Scotch Pine (Pinus nigra) 2x2x30 cm dimensions specimens were

prepared and placed to water return system on water cooling tower and impregned. Duration of exposure to

return water of cooling tower was 9 months. Specimens were tested for bending strenght and compression

strenght parallel to grain.

As a result, there was no rottenness or any odour observed on the specimens terated with preservatives.

However, for the control specimens significant color change, odour and surfacae softenning was observed.

According to the results of compression tests parallel to the grain and bending tests, there was a significant

strenght loss on control specimens.

SU SOĞUTMA KULELERİNDE KULLANILAN KARAÇAM ÖRNEKLERİNDE FİZİKSEL VE MEKANİK ÖZELLİKLERDE MEYDANA GELEN DEĞİŞİMİN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Bu çalışma bakteri, mantar ve böceklere karşı koruyucu etkisi bilinen Wolmanit-CB ve ProtimWR230 emprenye

maddelerinin su soğutma kulelerinde kullanılan ağaç malzemelerde odun koruma etkinliklerinin belirlenmesi

amacıyla hazırlanmıştır. Karaçam (Pinus nigra) odunundan su soğutma kulesinin dönüş suyuna yerleştirilmek

üzere 2x2x30 cm boyutlarında odun örnekleri hazırlanmış ve emprenye edilmiştir. Su soğutma kulesinin dönüş

suyuna 9 ay süre ile maruz bırakılan odun örneklerine statik eğilme direnci ve liflere paralel basınç direnci

testleri uygulanmıştır.

Emprenye edilmiş odun örnekleri üzerinde herhangi çürüklük ve koku meydana gelmezken kontrol örneklerinde

ise renk değişimi, koku ve yüzeysel yumuşamanın meydana geldiği görülmüştür. Emprenye edilmeyen (kontrol)

örneklerde liflere paralel basınç direnci ve eğilme direnci değerlerinde emprenye edilen örneklere göre önemli

derecede azalmaların olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
