Abstract

Nasıl ki ünlü İtalyan şair Giacomo Leopardi için Recanati çok büyük bir öneme sahiptir, aynı şekilde Umberto Saba'nın eserlerinde doğduğu kent olan Trieste'nin etkisi çok belirgindir. Saba Trieste'yi romantik ve dramatik bir kent olarak nitelendirmekte ve kentin bu özelliklerinin kendi klasik ve şiirsel karakteriyle bir çelişki oluşturduğunu ve sanatının da bu çelişkiden beslendiğini belirtmektedir. Kentin maddesel ve ruhsal görünümü; denizi, limanı, dağları, tepeleri, üzerinde süzülen bulutları ve denizi, sokakları, bu sokaklarda hep bulmayı başardığı, sığınıp dış dünyayı izlediği köşecikleri, rüzgarları, kısacası her şeyi şaire esin kaynağı olmuştur. Kentteki her şey ona yaşamının bir devresini, bir olayını çağrıştırmaktadır. Bu kentten ayrı olduğu zamanlarda da ona duyduğu özlemi sürekli vurgulamıştır. Ayrıca kentine duyduğu aşkı karısı Uma'ya olan bağlılığıyla ve G. Leopardi'nin Recanati'ye olan aşkıyla özdeşleştirmiştir.

Abstract

Just as Recanati has an important place for the famous Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi, so is Trieste, the city of his birth for Umberto Saba. Saba describes Trieste as a romantic and dramatic city, stating that these features of the city are inconsistent with its own classical and poetic character, a contradiction, which, as he points out, feeds into his art. The material and spiritual appearance of the city with the sea, harbour, mountains, the hills, clouds over the sea, winds, streets, corners of which he always finds, and uses to escape from and watch the outside world, in short everything about the city was an inspiration for his poetry. Everything in the city reminded him of an action and a different phase of his life. He gave voice to his longing for the city when he was away. Moreover, his love for the city is associated with his commitment to his wife and Renacati’s love for G. Leopardi.
