Abstract
Bu çalışmamızda Madrid şehrini ve onun Çağdaş İspanyol yazınındaki yerini inceleyeceğiz. Şehrin kuruluşu IX. yüzyıla dayanır. Madrid'in İspanyol Yazınına farklı ve daha derin içerikli olarak girmesi Realist Dönem yazarlarından Benito Perez Galdös'un yapıtlarıyla olur. Yaşamının büyük bir bölümünü bu şehirde geçiren yazar, köşe bucak her yerini bildiği ve her sınıftan insanı tanıdığı bu şehre ayrı bir sevgi duyardı. Daha önceleri konusu Madrid'te geçen romanlar yok değildi ama Galdös ile yaşayan, kanlı canlı, acı çeken, var olma savaşımı veren insanlarıyla özdeşleşen bir Madrid karşımıza çıkar. Toplumsal çalkantılar nedeniyle zor yaşam koşulları içinde sürüklenen insanları anlatan Galdös'un izinden daha sonra Pio Baroja, Camilio Jöse Cela, Max Aub, Soledad Puertolas gibi yazarlar gider.

Abstract
We analyse the importance of Madrid in the Contemporary Spanish Novel in our study. The foundation of Spanish city Madrid dates back to the 9 th century. It appears in the Spanish Literature for the first time in the works of Benito Perez Galdos, a realistic writer of the late nineteens. Galdos, who spent all his life in Madrid, knew caracteristics of people, standard of their life and the atmosphere of the city in those days. We cannot claim that there wasn't any kind of writing about Madrid, but with Galdos it is the first time we observe a breathing Madrid with blood and tears and its citizens suffering and struggling for their lives. Pio Baroja, Camilio Jose Cela, Max Aub, Soledad Puertolas have follewed Galdos in this sense with their novels and stories.
