Abstract

Hint mitolojisinde Purāṇalar önemli bir yer tutar. Sayıları on sekizdir. İçlerinde sayısız efsane ve öykü barındırırlar. Ne zaman yazıldıkları pek net olmamakla birlikte Bhāgavata Purāṇa için M.S. 950 tarihi kabul edilmektedir. Bhāgavata Purāṇa, Purāṇaların en önemlilerinden biri olarak kabul edilir. 18.000 beyit, 332 bölüm ve 12 kitaptır. Bu purāṇanın en popüler ve karakteristik bölümü Krishṇa’nın detaylı olarak tarihinin anlatıldığı onuncu kitaptır. Adı “kara, siyah” anlamına gelmektedir ve tanrı Vishṇu’nun sekizinci avatārıdır. Neşeli bir karakterdir. Flüt çalar, gopilerle aşk yaşar. Krishṇa, çocukluğundan itibaren birçok ifritle mücadele eder. Onun hayatı bu tür efsane ve öykülerle doludur. İfrit Baka ile yaptığı mücadele bunlardan biridir ve mitolojide bilinen bir mittir.

Krishõa’s Killing of Bakàsura

Abstract

Purāṇas have an important place in Indian Mythology. They are eighteen in number. They contain numerous legends and stories. It is unclear when Purāṇas were written. But we can assume that the Bhāgavata Purāṇa was written approximately in 950 A.D. Bhāgavata Purāṇa is considered one of the most important Purāṇas, It contains of 18.000 verses, distributed amongst 332 chapters, divided into 12 books. The most popular and characteristic part of this Purāṇa is the tenth book, which narrates in detail the history of Krishṇa. The meaning of his name is “black” and he is accepted to be the eighth avatar of god Vishṇu. He is a cheerful character. He plays flute and lives love with gopis. Krishṇa had to fight since his childhood with many devils. His life is full of such legends and stories. One of them is his struggle with the demon Baka and a known myth in Indian mythology.
