Type 1 Tympanoplasty Results

Abstract

Aim: To review our chronic otitis media surgeries and to investigate the reasons of unsuccess and success of the type 1 tympanoplasty operations.Material and Methods: 68 chronic otitis media patients who underwent type 1 tympanoplasty surgery between 2000 and 2005 years are examined retrospectively. The sex, age, perforation types of the ears (central, marginal, subtotal and total), operation technique (overlay, underlay), pure tone odiometry results of the patients before and after the surgery (500-1000-2000-4000Hz) are evaluated. Student t-test and Mann-Whitney U tests are used for statistical analysis.Results: We did not find any statistical significance between sex, operation age, perforation types (central, marginal, subtotal and total), operation technique (overlay, underlay) and the success rates of eardrum intact (p>0.05). The postoperative mean gap gain of tympanoplasty type 1 was 8.3 db.Conclusion: We thought that type 1 tympanoplasty success rates are not affected from factors like age, sex, perforation type (central, marginal, subtotal and total) and operation technique (overlay, underlay). Although dramatic improvements are not established in postoperative hearing gain but acceptable results could be taken

Tip 1 Timpanoplasti Sonuçlarımız

Abstract

Amaç: Kronik otitis media cerrahisindeki uygulamalarımızdan tip 1 timpanoplastideki başarılarımızın ve başarısızlıklarımızın nedenlerinin araştırılmasıdır.Gereç ve Yöntemler: 2000 ile 2005 yılları arasında kronik otitis media nedeniyle tip 1 timpanoplasti yapılan 68hasta retrospektif olarak incelendi. Hastaların cinsiyetleri, ameliyat sırasındaki yaşları, kulak zarı perforasyon tipleri (santral, marjinal, subtotal ve total), ameliyat tekniği (overlay, underlay), ameliyat öncesi ve sonrası saf ses odiolojik değerlendirmeleri (500-1000-2000-4000Hz) tespit edildi. İstatistiksel değerlendirmeler Student t test ve Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılarak yapıldı.Bulgular: Çalışmamızda cinsiyet, operasyon yaşı, perforasyon tipi (santral, marjinal, subtotal, total) ve ameliyat tekniği (overlay, underlay) ile timpanoplasti sonrası zarın intaktlığı arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki saptanmadı (p>0.05). Timpanoplasti sonrası odiogram değerlerimize baktığımızda tip 1 timpanoplastide postoperatif gap kazanç ortalamamızı 8.3 db olarak bulduk.Sonuç: Retrospektif olarak yaptığımız bu çalışmanın sonucunda tip 1 timpanoplasti başarısının yaş, cinsiyet, perforasyon yeri ve ameliyat tekniği (overlay, underlay) gibi faktörlerden etkilenmediğini saptadık. Postoperatif işitme kazancında ise dramatik iyileşmeler saptamasak ta kabul edilebilir sonuçlar alınabileceğini düşünüyoruz
