The Effect of Short and Long Term Inhaler Corticosteroid Use on Oral and Periodontal Health in Asthmatic Patients

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical effects of the short and long terminhaler corticosteroid (ICS) use on oral and periodontal health in asthmatic patients.Methods: Control group was consisted of 17 subjects who had no systemic problems, whilethe study group consisted of 51 patients with asthma using ICS. Study groups were divided intothree subgroups in respect of the duration of ICS use. The clinical parameters such as PlaqueIndex (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Clinical attachment levels (CAL), Probing depth (PD), DMFT and salivary pH were recorded. Astımlı Hastalarda Kısa ve Uzun Dönem İnhaler Kortikosteroid Kullanımının Oral ve Periodontal Sağlık Üzerine Etkileri

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı astımlı hastalarda kullanılan inhaler kortikosteroidlerin (İKS) kısave uzun dönemde oral ve periodontal sağlık üzerine etkilerini araştırmaktır.Yöntem: Çalışmamızda kontrol grubunu 17 sağlıklı birey, çalışma grubunu 51 astımlı ve İKSkullanan hastalar oluşturacak şekilde iki grup oluşturuldu. Çalışma grubu İKS kullanım süresinegöre üç alt gruba ayrıldı. Tüm bireylerden Plak İndeksi (Pİ), Gingival İndeks (Gİ), KlinikAtaşman Seviyesi (KAS), Sondlanan Cep Derinliği (SCD), DMF-T indeks ölçümü ve tükürükpH değeri ölçümü gerçekleştirildi. Hastaların ağız içi muayenelerinde mukozada patolojikdurum olup olmadığı incelendi.Bulgular: Pİ, Gİ, KAS, SCD ve tükürüğün pH’ı çalışma grubunun her üç alt grubunda ölçülenortalama değerleri kontrol grubunda ölçülen değerlerden anlamlı derecede yüksek bulundu(P
