Retrospective Evaluation of Mycosis Fungoides Patients Which Were Followed in Duzce Medical Faculty Dermatology Clinic in the Last Ten Years

Abstract

Aim: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is one type of T cell lymphomas characterized by a constellationof clinical, histologic, immunologic and molecular findings. Many patients follow a slowlyprogressive, but indolent disease course, while others have a more aggressive disease. The aimof this study was to investigate clinical and demographic characteristics of MF, which wasrelatively frequently seen in our region.Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with MF which were followed up in Düzcemedical Faculty Dermatology Department between February 1999 and June 2009.Forty fourwere enrolled who fulfilled the inclusion criteriaResults: The incidence of Mycosis Fungoides in our region was 1,3 per 100,000. It was 2,6 to4,3 times more frequent when compared to other series. The mean age was 55,7 years whichwere similar to the western reports. When the gender differences were analyzed, it was seenthat it is more frequent in males. It was 1, 75 times more, again different than the other studiesreported from Turkey. Age characteristics show that it was more frequent in females before 50years of age. There is a sudden increase in males after 50 years of age. These findings showedthat the etiological factors of the disease might be different among sex groups.Conclusion: This study revealed that MF was more frequent seen in our region, but we couldnot find any potential specific risk factors. The present study clearly showed the need of aprospective controlled trial design in our region

Düzce Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dermatoloji Kliniğinde Son 10 Yılda Takip Edilen Mycosis Fungoides Vakalarının Retrospektif Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Mikozis fungoides (MF) klinik, histolojik, immünolojik ve moleküler bulgularıyladerinin T hücreli lenfomasıdır. Diğer lenfomalardan farklı olarak çok yavaş seyirlidir.Çalışmamızın amacı bölgemizde nispeten sık olarak görülen MF’in klinik ve demografiközelliklerini ortaya koymaktı.Gereç ve Yöntem: Düzce Tıp Fakültesi Dermatoloji polikliniğinde Şubat 1999 ile Haziran 2009tarihleri arasında takip edilen 44 MF hastası retrospektif olarak incelendi.Bulgular: Bölgemizde bu hastalığın sıklığı 100 binde 1,34 olarak saptanmıştır. Bu sıklık diğerserilerle kıyaslandığında hastalığın bölgemizde 2,6-4,3 kat daha sık olduğunu göstermekteydi.Ortalama görülme yaşı 55,7 yıl idi ve batı toplumlarındakine benzer bulunmuştur. Hastalığıncinsiyete göre dağılımına bakıldığında erkeklerde daha sık gözükmektedir. Bu oran ülkemizdekidiğer çalışmalardan farklı olarak bizim çalışmamızda 1,75 olarak saptanmıştır. Yaş dağılımınagöre değerlendirildiğinde 50 yaşından önce bayanlarda sık görülürken, 50 yaşından sonraerkekler lehine fark birden artmaktaydı. Bu durum bölgemizde bu hastalığın etiyolojisinietkileyen faktörlerin farklı olabileceğini aynı zamanda cinsiyetler arasında da fark olabileceğinidüşündürmektedir.Sonuç: MF’in bölgemizde daha sık görüldüğünü saptadık. Fakat bu sıklığı açıklayacakpotansiyel özgün bir risk faktörü saptanamadı. Bu çalışma bölgemizde yapılacak prospektifkontrollü bir çalışmaya ihtiyaç olduğunu açıkça göstermiştir
