Demographic and Etiologic Data and Risk Factors of Young Stroke Patient

Abstract

Purpose: Was to evaluate the etiopathogenesis and vascular risk factors in young patients withischemic stroke.Methods: Fifty-three young patients (age between 17-45 years) with ischemic stroke wereanalysed retrospectively. The cases were classified according to TOAST classification. Inmedical history, smoking, alcohol taking, oral contraceptive, abortion history, pregnancy,hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and atherosclerosis has been evaluated.Results: Of the 53 patients, 23 (43.4%) were males and 30 (56.6%) were females. The riskfactors described for the etiology of stroke was found to large vessel disease 17 (32.1%), cardioemboli 12 (22.6%), small vessel disease 11 (20.8%), other factors 11 (20.8%) and undeterminedfactors 3 (5.7%).Conclusions: We believe that may reduce the incidence of stroke in the young patients bydetermined risk factors and taking the necessary measures, hereby may prevent mortality anddisability in the patients who have risk for stroke

İskemik İnmeli Genç Hastaların Demografik, Etyolojik ve Risk Faktörleri

Abstract

Amaç: Genç iskemik inmeli hastaların etyopatogenezini ve vasküler risk faktörlerinideğerlendirmektir.Yöntem: Elli üç genç iskemik inmeli hasta retrospektif olarak incelendi.Hastalar TOAST sınıflamasına göre değerlendirildi. Tıbbi öykülerinde sigara, alkol alımı, oralkontraseptif, düşük öyküsü, gebelik, hipertansiyon diyabetes mellitus ve ateroskleroz sorgulandı.Bulgular: Elli üç hastanın 33’ü erkek (%43.4), 30’u kadındı (%56.6). Hastaların etyolojisinde17’sinde (%32.1) büyük damar hastalığı, 12’sinde (%22.6) kardiyoemboli ve 11’inde (%20.8)diğer nedenler tespit edilirken 3 (%5.7) hastada neden bulunamadı.Sonuç: İnme geçirme riski olan genç hastalarda risk faktörleri belirlenip gerekli önlemleralınarak genç inmeli hastaların insidansının azaltılarak buna bağlı gelişebilecek mortalite veözürlülüğün engellenebileceği kanaatindeyiz
