Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccines have been a controversial topic since it was first advised for the protection of cervical cancer. After being approved by Food and Drug Administration in USA, due to collected data and contradictory reports, many controversies have been put forward on its efficacy and safety. All over the world, many countries discussed the vaccine according to data and reported controversial results. Some of these reports indicate that the vaccines are applicable whereas others are not. The aim of this review is to inform about controversies on HPV vaccine. The data in this article are collected from related scientific articles and reports of Google Scholar. Even though HPV vaccines are advised by USA government and World Health Organisation for the protection from cervical cancer, negative research data are being provided by the rest of the countries including the USA concerning efficacy of such vaccines. Reports reflect that adverse effect are higher than expected, sometimes even have lethal consequences On the other hand, many scientists couldn’t find any relation between adverse effects and vaccine. Japan government early on advised the vaccines to be used however this decision was then revoked. Although price of vaccines are currently cheaper, it seems as Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health will not permit the use of such vaccines to be included in routine vaccination program unless a consensus is made on efficacy, protection rates and adverse effects of HPV vaccination. Controversies about HPV vaccines are still going on. More studies are needed in order to prove that protection from cervical cancer by routine HPV vaccination program is good a strategy.
