The aim of the present study was to compare the results of nucleic acid hybridization technique with microscopic evaluation and culturing in determination of Candida spp, Gardnerella. vaginalis and Trichomonas. vaginalis. 24 patients with vaginitis complaints were enrolled to the study. The samples were obtained from the posterior vaginal fornix. All samples were evaluated by wet mount preparation, Gram staining, bacterial and yeast culturing and hybridization techniques. Hybridization was found to be 85.7 % sensitive and 100 % specific for Gardnerella vaginalis, and 100 % sensitive and specific for both Candida species and Trichomonas vaginalis. Since gynecologists prefer to begin the treatment immediately in most cases with vaginitis, rapid techniques such as nucleic acid hybridization technique can be employed as well as conventional methods for diagnosis. Çalismanin amaci Candida suslari, Gardnerella vaginalis ve Trichomonas vaginalis tanisinda nükleik asit hibridizasyon teknigi ile mikroskobik inceleme ve kültür gibi geleneksel yöntemlerin karsilastirilmasidir. Kadin Hastaliklari ve Dogum Poliklinigine basvuran ve vajinit tanisi alan 24 hasta çalismaya dahil edildi. Pelvik muayene esnasinda posterior vaginal forniksten alinan örnekler direkt mikroskobik inceleme, Gram boyama, kültür ve hibridizasyon testi için kullanildi. Hibridizasyon testi Gardnerella vaginalis için % 85.7 duyarli ve % 100 özgül bulundu. Testin Candida türleri ve Trichomonas vaginalis için duyarlilik ve özgüllügü % 100 olarak saptandi. Vajinitli olgularin çogunda jinekologlar tedaviyi hemen düzenlemek is tedikleri için nükleik asit hibridizasyon yöntemleri gibi hizli teknikler, kültür ve gram boyama gibi geleneksel yöntemlere ek olarak kullanilabilir.
