Candida Colonization In Children With Cerebral Palsy

Year 2014, Volume: 16 Issue: 1, 16 - 19, 01.03.2014

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate candida colonization in children with cerebralpalsy.Materials and Methods: In the study, 71 patients who were diagnosed as cerebral palsy and40 healthy children were included at the Child Neurology Outpatient Clinic of Faculty ofMedicine, Mustafa Kemal University, between March and December 2011. The smear samplesfrom four regions which were oral, axillary, inguinal and antecubital areas. Results: Within the investigated areas, it was found that the most common colonized regionwas mouth and the most frequent species was Candida albicans both the patients with cerebralpalsy and control groups. When two groups were compared, it was seen that the colonization inthe mouth was significantly different in both groups and the antibiotic usage in patients withcerebral palsy was associated with an increased colonization of the mouth and inguinal region. Conclusion: In patients with cerebral palsy, the use of antibiotics especially may predispose tocolonization of candida which is more prominent in the mouth

SEREBRAL PALSİLİ ÇOCUKLARDA KANDİDA KOLONİZASYONU

Year 2014, Volume: 16 Issue: 1, 16 - 19, 01.03.2014
