ELEKTRİK TÜKETİMİ İLE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME ARASINDA NEDENSELLİK İLİŞKİSİ: TÜRKİYE ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract

1970’li yılların sonlarından itibaren araştırmacıların enerji-ekonomik büyüme ilişkisine artan ilgisi daha sonra spesifik alanlara kaymıştır. Elektrik tüketimi ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi de bu alanlardan biridir. Elektrik tüketimi ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin araştırıldığı bu çalışmada 19802010 yıllarına ait yıllık kişi başına gayri safi yurtiçi hasıla ve kişi başına elektrik tüketimi verileri kullanılmıştır. Bu iki değişken arasında uzun dönemli bir ilişkinin varlığının sorgulanabilmesi için eşbütünleşme testiuygulanmıştır. Ampirik sonuçlar elektrik tüketimi ile ekonomik büyüme arasında uzun dönemli bir ilişkinin bulunduğunu göstermiştir. Buna bağlı olarak nedensellik testi yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak büyümeden elektrik tüketimine doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik bulunmuştur. Buna göre politika yapıcılar tarafından elektrik piyasasına uygulanabilecek enerji koruma politikaları büyüme üzerinde olumsuz bir etki yaratmayacaktır

RELATION OF CAUSALITY BETWEEN ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: THE CASE OF TURKEY

Abstract

Since the late of 1970’s increasing interest in the relationship between energy and economic growth of reseachers has shifted to spesific areas. Examining the relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth is one of these areas. This study investigated the relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth using per capita gross domestic product and per capita electricity consumption annual data during the period of 1980-2010. Cointegration test is applied for questioning the existence of a long-term relationship between these two variables. The empirical results indicates that there is a long-term relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth. Accordingly, causality test is applied. As a result, there isunidirectional causality running from economic growth to electricity consumption. Therefore, energy conservation policies which can be applied to electricity market by policy-makers will not impact negatively on the growth
