The relationship between God image, stress coping, and infertility impact in women with primary infertility

Abstract

This study examines the relationships between God image, stress coping strategies, and the level of impact of infertility among women with primary infertility. A descriptive and cross-sectional design is employed with 380 women who applied to the Istanbul IVF Center and had been undergoing infertility treatment for at least one year, with data collected between August 2023 and February 2024. The average age of participants is 37.46 ± 6.04 years. Significant differences are found in scale scores across different sociodemographic categories (p < 0.05). It is observed that literate women cope better with stress than primary school graduates. A negative and weak relationship is found between God image and stress (r = –0.28, p < 0.01), indicating that a higher God image score is associated with lower stress. The overall infertility impact model is significant (F = 5.284, p < 0.001, R² = 0.10), with treatment duration, negative social reactions, and coping method as main predictors. This study emphasizes the impact of education and social support systems on infertility and reveals the importance of providing psychological support to these women.

Birincil infertil kadınlarda Tanrı imgesi, başa çıkma ve infertilite etkisi arasındaki ilişkiler

Abstract

Bu çalışma, birincil infertilite yaşayan kadınlarda Tanrı imgesi, stresle başa çıkma stratejileri ve infertilitenin etkileme düzeyi arasındaki ilişkileri incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tasarıma sahip çalışma, İstanbul IVF Merkezi’ne başvuran ve en az bir yıldır infertilite tedavisi görmekte olan 380 kadın ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler Ağustos 2023–Şubat 2024 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 37,46 ± 6,04 yıldır. Ölçek puanlarında farklı sosyodemografik kategoriler arasında anlamlı farklılıklar tespit edilmiştir (p < 0.05). Okuryazar kadınların stresle başa çıkma düzeylerinin, yalnızca ilkokul mezunlarına göre daha iyi olduğu görülmüştür. Tanrı imgesi ile stres arasında negatif ve zayıf bir ilişki saptanmıştır (r = –0.28, p < 0.01); bu durum, Tanrı imgesi puanı arttıkça stres düzeyinin azaldığını göstermektedir. Genel infertilite etkilenme modeli anlamlı bulunmuştur (F = 5.284, p < 0.001, R² = 0.10) ve modelde tedavi süresi, olumsuz sosyal tepkiler ve başa çıkma yöntemi temel yordayıcılar olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışma, infertilite sürecinde eğitim ve sosyal destek sistemlerinin etkisini vurgulamakta ve bu kadınlara psikolojik destek sağlanmasının önemine dikkat çekmektedir.
